This weeks photo challenge is hosted by Cliffsplace
His subject is: Religious or Paranormal
Now
I'm going to use some old photos for this. . . because the dumbutt that
I am forgot to bring my camera to my church gig yesterday
morning. I could have had the most amazing shot . . but instead I
just sat and stared at it for a while. Maybe I'll break open my
watercolor pencils .. those could work quite nice I think . . .
but
anyways . . . this is a good photochallenge for me because I love
structures. And some of the most amazing structures are . . .
churches. I could look at Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals and
churches till I turned blue. Among many other types of lovely
cathedrals and churches. You name it. Especially old
ones. I was perusing other photochallenge entries. . . and
I LOVE pictures of ruins. hmmm.
Anyways
. . I'll put in my entries here . . . one of these pictures is
quite possibly (in my opinion) the best picture I've ever taken.
The light was perfect. . and I was in the right place at the right
time. *snap* Which one do you all think it is?
These are from my trip to Vienna, Austria - Easter 2004. (prime church hunting season.
)

This is
the University Church in Vienna. Look at the amazing organ loft,
and the gorgeous painted ceiling . . and the beautiful woodwork!

Another
shot of the University Church . . facing *away* from the organ loft,
towards the altar. Do you see all the pink? Yeah.
Pink marble folks. Pink and green gorgeous amazing marble.
I walked in that church and almost died. Most of my pictures from
this church are blurry . . . cause I was so excited about the
structure! (and look at those gorgeous hand carved pews!!!)

Shame on me . . I the name of this one has slipped my mind at the moment. But wait till you see what we saw inside . . .

Again the
name has slipped my mind . . . but this is the church where Ludwig Van
Beethoven's funeral was held. and on that note. . .

There he is.
What an
amazing experience that was . . standing at the foot of the grave of
one of the most amazing composers to ever walk this earth. I'm
not an outwardly emotional person infront of peers and elders, but I
had an extremly hard time keeping my emotions in check that day.
{{ I
wanted to post a pic of an extremely mind blowing church organ here . .
but Xanga is being a butthole at the moment. sorry I'll try
again later.}}
Up close
and personal with the Votive Kirche. (Votive Church) As you
can see . . it was undergoing some sandblasting to take of the layers
of age and city smog to show its true colors again. (this church
lit up at night was an amazing sight to behold.)
Another
shot of the Votive Kirche (with some lovely Vienna
advertisements). If you can, get this picture as big as possible
. . and look at the glow in those stained glass windows . . even under
those years and years of filth. . . lovely.

The stair
to the pulpit in St. Stephens. . . right at the very center of the City
of Vienna. No roads lead to this cathedral. It's completely
inside an immense courtyard of cobblestone. Amazing.
(Imagine a courtyard big enough to house a Gothic Cathedral)
mmm.
The view,
after walking a quarter of a circle around the pulpit. Look at
that stone work. (yes .. . thats *stone*) Amazing!!!
Ok. . . that
was my trip through Vienna. If I have the time, I have a few
pictures to scan and share . . if I have the time.
We
shall see.If I *don't*
post beforehand . .. everyone have a spectacular Turkey Day!! Eat
your Turkey and dressings and all that fun stuff that goes along with
it . . and then take a nice long NAP.
(at least, thats
what *I'm* gonna be doing!) heheTake care
all!

The churches in Europe are really quite something else... and it doesn't matter which one you see! The really grand and ornate ones are a sight to behold, but when it's just a humble little stone structure in the middle of the countryside, the awe and wonder still fills you... especially when you realize that structure was built something like in the 11th century. Happy T-day to you too!
beautiful pictures, absolutely gorgeous
WOAH GIRL....your photos are amazing. Love the church with the pink marble. Also, Beethoven's gravesite is unbelievable. I can imagine it would be very emotional to be standing in front of it.
I love cathedrals, too, and you have some awesone photos!
Have a good Thanksgiving!
man has done some amazing things in architecture. No doubt about it.
Those are some very beautiful pictures!
i thought i liked churches!!! woooooòooóoooW!!
I like the second pic with the pink marble the best.
Regarding your question about Italy... I met my husband several years back and ended up moving here to get married. It's been a real adventure and continues to be, but I would move back to my hometown in Hawaii in a heartbeat!!
I love all the old churches and abbeys. Some amazing workmanship in them all. Too bad too many churches in the States have gone the "modern" way.
incredible photos....amazing they look like lace in stone..I was only inVienna once..but..uhnm...one night was obviously not long enough ((Wings))
