I was just reading through my posts . . . and the funniest thing occurred to me.  Almost *exactly* a year ago, I posted about mourning a lost boot.  It was one of my favorite pairs boots . . . but after I had moved . . one had gone missing.

    Well wouldn't you know I found it a few weeks ago, buried in a storage container full of clothing?  one . . lone . . boot . . . now has a friend . . .

    So . . .

it's been a while.  Infact . . quite a long while.  I guess I needed a break.  I was trying too hard to be creative here . . . instead of just being me.

that IS all me . . . but it's me with a lot of effort.

    (*sigh that's sad*)

But I'm back . . . I still love this site . . and I think it's a fabulous idea.  I gleefully hit the *archive* button from time to time . . because I'd love to be able to look back on things . . or show my children how crazy I was.  :)   (if I ever have children . . *wistful look*)

    So it's a new beginning. . . .

  • I like a viola concerto.

who knew?!?  I mean . . .of all the instruments . . I actually like a concerto from the one that has one of the worst reputations in the symphony orchestra.  (teehee).

I played for the KSU symphony orchestra last night (another concert with 4 ringers in the horn section . . go KSU!) and we played the Bartok Viola Concerto . . .

it was rather enjoyable . . . the 2nd movement was gorgeous . . and the deep throaty tones the girl got out of that instrument were just breathtaking. . absolutely lovely.   She was very young . .so some of the technique was lacking . . but thankfully the technique is easier to learn than tone . . and that girls got tone in spades!

Viola.  heh.  *shakes head*  who knew?

  • I peer through windows,
    watch life go by,
    Dream of tomorrow,
    and wonder "why?"

    The past is holding me,
    keeping life at bay,
    I wander lost,
    in yesterday
    Wanting to fly-
    but scared to try.

    But if someone like you
    found someone like me,
    then suddenly,
nothing would ever be the same

    my heart would take wing
    and I'd feel so alive
    if someone like you
    found me!

(excerpt from Jekyll & Hyde . . . sung by Lucy about Jekyll)

    Lovely.  It's a beautiful song . . .

  • This made me smile . .

Ok.  . . invariably . . people are mostly in this life to do waht they need to do, work, make money, pay their bills, and (hopefully) get somewhere with their life.  White picket fence, 3.2 kids and whatnot.
But . . every once and awhile, you run across someone that makes you do a double take.  Makes you wonder . . "what in the hell?"
And then, just makes you smile.

Its weird . . its totally round the bend really.  But its adoreable.  It makes me laugh. . . and thats refreshing.

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?
    Yes.   I don't mind . . . as long as I enjoy what I'm reading.

    Bookmark or dog-ear?
Bookmark . . . but I have been known to dog-ear, in the case of a cheapo paperback.

Alphabetize by author, alphabetize by title, or random?
Mine would have to be random . . . because I order my books by genre, and then size (large hardback, down to small paperback.)

    Keep, throw away, or sell?
Mostly keep.  I also do book trading with a few friends . .. we read a book we enjoy (or a few) and then trade with each other . . . then we keep them.  I have been known to go to Half Price Books and trade them in . . .but only for books I didn't like.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
I keep it, but I don't keep it on the book while I'm reading it.  I set the dust jacket aside, so I don't muck it up while I'm reading.  (besdies, they tend to annoy the crap out of me while I'm trying to turn pages).  Then I will put the jacket back on when I'm finished with the book.

Read books with their dust jackets on or off?
Hehhee . . just answered that above.

    Short story or novel?
    Yes!

    Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
I have to say Harry Potter.  Never really got into the Lemony Snicket books.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I read until I get to a place that I can live with stopping.  (did that make sense?)  I often read much further into the night than I ever intend to . . I just can't help myself!  But I can't just stop in the middle of a random page . . . so I keep going until I get to the end of something.

"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
Dark and stormy night . . . hands down.  I've been obsessed with thrillers since I was a child.  I was reading Stephen King when I was 12 years old!

    Buy or borrow?
Yes!  Buy . . borrow from friends or the library . . . but I mostly buy.  Because I get attachments to books.  Then have a hard time returning them.

    New or used?
Doesn't matter!  I do love the atmosphere of a Barnes & Noble or Borders though.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
Truthfully?  Browsing.  I'll read a book if a large number of people recommend it . . but I tend to not conform . . I have odd tastes in books.  I can spend all day leafing through books in a store . . . and end up walking out with the most eclectic collection.

    Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
I like both.  I like to be left with questions, or left wondering "what the *bleep* just happened?  I also like a nice laced up ending too . . where I can breathe a nice sigh and go to bed with a smile on my face.  I just like 'em all!

Read in the morning, afternoon, or evening?
Yes!  Sometimes . . if I'm terribly into a book . .. I'll read in the evening . . take a 'break' to get some sleep . . and pick up where I left off when I wake up!

    Stand-alone or series?
I really have found that I enjoy series . . just because I don't want the books to end.  But I love stand-alone books as well.  Any!

    Favorite series?
Stephen King - The Dark Tower Series
Anything by Nora Roberts (I know, I know!)
    JRR Tolkein
Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy (and those that follow)
Anne Rice - her vampire series made me an absolute addict.
Madeline L'Engle - A Wrinkle in Time; Wind in the Door; Many Waters and A Swiftly Tilting Planet
    sooo many others . . . my mind is whirling. . .

    Favorite children's book?
Oh boy . . . I loved L'Engle books, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe and all those involved, I read so much . . . I can't even remember half of the names of the books I enjoyed.  I still have them all though!    Oh yes, Anne of Green Gables . . . so many others.

Favorite books which deserve more praise and more attention?

    Favorite books read last year?
Last year . . . hmmm . . . Anna Karenina, the new translation.  Very good btw.

    Favorite books of all time?
Pride and Predjudice; The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks; Violin by Anne Rice; Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice; The Wastelands by Stephen King; I have so many favorite books . . . so many . . I couldn't even begin (though I seem to have begun) . . . but there are so many more. . .

What are you reading right now?
The Memory Keepers Daughter   Just got it to start this weekend.

    What are you reading next?
    I have a stack of about 5 books . . . I can't remember their titles off hand . . . just books that looked interesting that I grabbed.

What is your favorite book to re-read?
Stephen King's Dark Tower Series . . . I find new things every time.  Also my little fluff books . . easy reads that make me happy.

    Do you ever smell books?
I LOVE the smell of a new book.

Do you ever read primary source documents?
    Sadly, I usually don't.  I should!  Sometimes I think I'd like to . . . but I usually don't.

  • I could never work from home . . .

I've discovered something about myself recently.

I'm a hard worker.  When I know people are counting on me . . I give over 120%.  When I'm doing a job for others . . for a client, for my boss, for my co-worker . . . I make sure that it is done, and done correctly.

When I do a job for myself?  I'm a slacker.

Take today for instance . . .   my boss has decided to work from home.  And it has taken me all morning to do something that it would usually take me 2 to 3 hours to do.  And here I am . . writing about it online.  I can't even say that I'm horribly worried about it either.
This job is extremely high-volume and fast paced.  I'm constantly working my fingertips off (literally . . it hurts) . . . and its just nice to have a relaxed day . . . even though I know it'll just get crazy again tomorrow.

Is that wrong of me?  Should I feel bad that I'm easing off a bit today?
